Recently I listened to a sermon about miracles and if they are for today or not. As I've experienced life as a believer in Jesus Christ I've often listened to preachers or people that have been Christian for many years and study the bible and read a lot of books about the bible and I've made many observations.
Making Stuff Up:
Many times teachers and preachers teach what man has taught them learning from those that have a specific doctrine and one of their rules seem to be:
Thou shalt not contradict your doctrine of man.
For example. I was listening to a baptist preacher speaking on what miracles are and are not. Now remember the audience he is speaking to generally speaking doesn't believe in demons having any ability to influence a believer. Much denial come out from this false belief. I don't even think they realize they have this blind spot.
Question:
Define Miracle
Doctrinal blind spot:
Rarely acknowledging the supernatural leads to people that have little wisdom or experience concerning miracles.
This preacher's definition of miracle was hard to understand and was vague and arbitrary. An illustration used was it would be a miracle if we planted a seed and the church building were to pop up then we would have a miracle.
Question:
How Often Should We See Miracles:
Blind Spot to Answer Question:
You never see miracles so the answer needs to be close to zero.
Using the logic that he pulled from someone (not sure if he counted himself) but he stated that there were three hundred miracles recorded in the bible over 1500 years. His definition of miracle above was so vague that what was excluded was things like casting out demons and healing the sick. Each time that happens God is interceding and we see something in the natural realm happen. We don't see all of it but some. A person is delivered of a demonic spirit. You are going to see a change or manifestation of that thing fighting to stay. When someone is healed, you see it.
The problem with trying to learn about miracles from people that incorrectly define what a miracle is and then use false logic to say that miracles happened in the past and they occasionally happen but so rarely that you will likely never see one and that is ok.
Why? Because the finished works doctrine mixed with a hyper grace it is finished doctrine leads believers into the ditch so far they cannot even make logical arguments where the beliefs their doctrine purports contradict the word of God.
What is supernatural?
Apparently God is supernatural, but Satan is not. He is super normal. So this preacher also incorrectly described Satan as not having supernatural power. Satan has power in the unseen realm. That is supernatural power. He can't even rightly define things that are unseen because that might give Satan too much credit. Who cares about truth anymore?
What About Faith?
The statement was also made about someone not getting healed because they didn't have enough faith. The problem isn't about how much faith but having any faith. These types teach that not having faith is ok. That you can be healed even if nobody believes for God to intercede. And then there is the power and authority delegated to believers by Jesus Christ and the gifts of the spirit which the Holy Spirit gives out to believers as He will. What about that? Why is it rare that you would see a Baptist stand up and say, "I've got the gifts of healings". Because they typically do not believe in that nor do they study it except to disprove it and use bible verses out of context to thereby back up their doctrines of man.
Ask these people if faith is important. They will say, "Yes!"
Ask them if they believe in the supernatural. They will say, "I believe in God!"
Ask them if people are healed today and they will say, "God might heal you if it is His will....I think that is what the preacher said."
Religious teachings that deny the power of God and create group thinkers that acquiesce to the preacher before the Holy Spirit always leads to doctrines of man and a lack of faith. Doesn't matter what flavor of false teaching you are talking about. This group thinking, pope like figure needing, faithful church attending person will end up in the same ditch as their preacher.
