A New Commandment Or Not?

It seems I've always thought that Jesus gave a new commandment of Love they neighbor as thyself. But the new commandment Jesus gave was more like, love each other as I have loved you. So that is very different from what is written in Leviticus:

Leviticus 19:18 KJV
Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.

And I was thinking Jesus was giving a new commandment for us to love one another as He has loved us.

Well, it does look like this was Jesus telling the disciples that were with him that he has a new thing to tell them.  And he does:

Jesus said these words to the disciples:
John 13:34 KJV
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

So this is something somewhat new because it is Jesus telling His disciples to love one another as Jesus loved them.  These real people that lived were taught in person by Jesus Christ before He was crucified. And Jesus tells them to love each other as he loved them.  So that is difficult if you aren't a born again believer which they were not.  And that is difficult if you were not with Jesus daily as they were.  So we are in a relationship with Jesus and are taught of the Holy Spirit. And we can try to love others as Jesus loves us, but that is a very hard thing to measure or be legalistic about.

This is different from what Leviticus 19:18 KJV.

Which Covenant Was Jesus Under Before Dying on the Cross?

The answer is the Old Covenant. Galatians 4:4 KJV But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, Jesus was born under the law and was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel. Matthew 15:24 KJV But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel. Because Jesus lived under the covenant of law, His words line up with that covenant as He spoke to the Jews. Under the old covenant the only blood ever shed for people was animal blood which had no power to forgive sins or perfect the believer before God. (Heb. 7:19; 9:9; 10:1-4; 11:40) Animal's blood could only cover/atone for sin until the Lamb of God would come and take away the sin of the world and remove it as far as the east is from the west and remember it no more. John 1:29 KJV The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. If you are a true believer the...

The Tongue

James 3:1-11 KJV  1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. 2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horses' mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body. 4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth. 5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. 7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: 8 But the tongue can no man...

The Ways of Man That Seem Right: Twisting Scripture to Fit Man's Doctrine

1 John 1:9 KJV  I see deception in the translation of 1 John 1:9 verse similarly to that of Hebrews 10:25 KJV. The meaning that people come up with is often viewed as godly and seems right.  But  assigning a godly meaning to a bible verse doesn't make that explanation true.  Example:  (Hebrews 10:25 our need to "go to church" and 1 John 1:9 some flavor of asking God for forgiveness and some would say our not needing to ask God for foregiveness) So these explanations become part of a doctrine which props up man's needs for the church building and that building's organization. Example:  (Hebrews 10:25 used to guilt people into coming to that specific church building every Sunday AND 1 John 1:9 telling people either they never need to confess sin OR that they have to specifically track each sin and confess each one). A double minded man is unstable in ALL his ways.  Why is truth so important?  Believing a lie causes a supernatural sp...
