1 Corinthians 5:11
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
EXTORTIONER:
The Greek determines this is an adjective. Remember what an adjective is: a word or phrase naming an attribute, added to or grammatically related to a noun to modify or describe it.
A person that acts like an EXTORTIONER:
1. exceedingly and violently greedy, ravenously predatory, extortionate, rapacious.
2. (thus) taking great pleasure in pursuing and successfully exploiting others (while thinking highly of themselves).
RAILER: adjective again.
abusive.
COVETOUS: adjective
holding (desiring) more, i.e. eager for gain (avaricious, hence a defrauder)
drunkard, idolater, and fornicator are more obvious. Many narcissists are all of these things.
What to do if you are married to narcissistic/abusive spouse?
Does the spouse claim to be a believer in Jesus Christ aka a Christian?
IF Yes, the abusive spouse does claim to be a believer
THEN this person is a born again believer
OR this person is a tare/unconverted person among the believers
EITHER WAY be it this person is a false convert or a true believer the behavior is unacceptable being that they are a fornicator, or covetous or an idolater or a railer or a drunkard or an extortioner
SO do not even eat with them. Cut off your associations. Does this have to do with members of the body of Christ but exempts a spouse? I could be wrong but I don't see this exception. So for the reason to help them turn them over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh that their spirit might be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus Christ. (verse below).
1 Corinthians 5:5
To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
IF they are a believer and come back they will see the problem and repent and God will help restore them. OR if they are not a believer they will continue in their wicked ways and at some point perhaps they will repent and be converted. But just allowing them to remain in your life you are thereby providing a place for this behavior to be practiced and this will not help them it seems.
Can you then divorce this person? God knows and I think the Holy Spirit will help those that need more wisdom in their situation if they ask.
James 1:5 KJV
If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
