Proverbs 21:19 KJV
It is better to dwell in the wilderness, than with a contentious and an angry woman.
Proverbs 26:21 KJV
As coals are to burning coals, and wood to fire; so is a contentious man to kindle strife.
Proverbs 27:15 KJV
A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
Contention is not the behavior we should have:
1 Corinthians 11:16 KJV
But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.
1 Peter 3:1-13 KJV
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
While they behold your chaste conversation coupled with fear.
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:
Even as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.
Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered.
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
What does chaste conversation mean?
This is the pure and clean conversation of a wife that the husband observes and it exposes something to him that causes a change (observed in fear). This is God's way. If you believe God's word you will trust this. When you act opposite to this then you prove that you do not believe God. This is sin. This is opening a door up to Satan. This gives place to the devil.
What to do?
RESIST the devil and he will flee from you. Take authority over a contentious spirit and obtain a meek and quiet spirit which in God's sight is of a great price.
How to deal with a contentious person?
Proverbs 15:1 KJV
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Proverbs 15:18 KJV
A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Proverbs 16:32 KJV
He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.
Proverbs 19:11 KJV
The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.
Or you can choose to be angry and be a fool.
Ecclesiastes 7:9 KJV
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools.
Or you can believe the word of God and not become a slave to sin again. You are a slave to sin when you allow the spirit of contention to speak evil words through you. You become a slave to that. Jesus can set you free. How? By faith you can instead so no to the devil and thank God for a meek and quiet spirit.
Galatians 5:1 KJV
Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.
